Upper School

Westtown seeks to attract diverse and talented students with strong academic backgrounds who are eager to participate in many aspects of community life. We welcome students who are looking for a challenging academic environment and interactive learning process. Students entering Westtown can expect to find other students who are excited by the opportunity to learn in the company of friends from around the world, and who share a commitment to personal integrity and responsibility.

Students generally seek admission to Westtown as freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Students may apply for the 9th or 10th grades as day or boarding students. All of our 11th and 12th graders are boarding students at Westtown. Westtown believes strongly in the positive benefits to be gained by learning to live together. We want all of our students to graduate with the opportunities and advantages provided by a boarding experience. Request an information/application packet by filling out our on-line request for information or by contacting the admissions office at 610-399-7900 or at admissions@westtown.edu.

As soon as possible, complete Part I of the Application Packet. Part I includes the following forms: General Information, Student Interest Form, and Preliminary Health Report. Mail these forms to the Admissions Office along with the application fee. Please attach a small passport size photo to your Student Interest Form.

Interview: Please call the Admissions Office at 610-399-7900 to schedule your Westtown School visit and interview prior to the application deadline. We look forward to meeting you! We welcome visitors during the academic day, Mondays through Fridays. A visit usually lasts about two hours. While it is advantageous to visit the campus in person, a telephone interview can be arranged if you live too far from Westtown for a visit. International students: A visit to Westtown School and a personal interview is strongly suggested. Additional English proficiency screening is done at this time. Please allow 3 hours for your visit.

Register to take the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). Our Westtown School code is #8164. Please plan to take the test in November, December or January and have the test results sent directly to Westtown School. While most candidates take the SSAT, we also accept the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam).

To register online, go to:
www.ssat.org or 609-683-4440.
http://www.erbtest.org/pages/ERB_ISEE.html or 1-800-446-0320

Candidates for the 11th grade may submit the PSAT in lieu of the SSAT.

International Students: Both the SSAT and TOEFL are required for your application. The Westtown school code for the TOEFL is #1400. To register for the TOEFL, go to the homepage on the web site: www.ets.org/toefl. There will be a link where you can register online for either the paper or computer version of the test. Please request that results be sent to Westtown School.

At any time prior to the application deadline, complete and submit Part II of the application which includes the Student Questionnaire and the Parent Statement.

The Math Teacher Recommendation, English Teacher Recommendation, and Request for Transcript and School Report forms should be distributed to your current school after the first marking period. These forms will need to be completed and returned to us prior to the application deadline. An official copy of your transcript and standardized test scores should also be mailed directly from the applicant's school to Westtown School between mid-December and mid-January. Students applying for the 9th grade should submit a transcript for their 6th, 7th, and 8th grade year. Students applying for grades 10-12 should submit a transcript for their 8th grade year and any subsequent high school years. If any psycho-educational testing has been done in the past 3 years, please submit these test results with your application.

International Students: You may fax a copy of your transcripts for the admissions application, but please ask your school to send an official copy of your grades. Transcripts should be translated into English and certified as official by your school. Reference forms should also be completed in English.

Applications are currently being accepted for Fall 2008 enrollment.

We encourage you to contact the admissions office for more information.
