Sarah Atwater Bourne received a MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and a BA in Studio Art from Warren Wilson College near Asheville, North Carolina where she focused on Book Arts, Photography and Printmaking. Directly following college she taught in both the Lower and Upper School at Westtown while continuing her education in printmaking at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. She also completed a summer residency at Book Works, a Book Arts and Letterpress Studio, in Asheville, NC. Sarah has taught art in many different capacities since 2003.
Brooke Coleman has worked in the Math Department at Westtown School from 2003-2011. In her time at Westtown, she taught sections of Geometry, Advanced Geometry, and Algebra 1. She works to foster a classroom environment that is both challenging and comfortable for her students.
Amy Domenick has taught Physical Education at West Chester Friends School for 11 years. She has her BS in Health and Physical Education and her MS in Kinesiology from West Chester University. In her spare time, Amy enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and trail running.
Exton Driving School has been state approved and licensed through the Pennsylvania Department of Education since 1988. They will teach the classroom portion of Driver Education. On-road instruction can be scheduled with the classroom instructor.
Andy Fetzer has been an educator for 23 years, teaching elementary and middle school students. He is a fifth grade teacher at Westtown. He has his Pennsylvania certification in elementary and special education and a Masters Degree in Education from LaSalle University.
Tom Gilbert teaches Geometry and Computer Science at Westtown School, along with upper school soccer and residential life activities. He has his BS in Engineering from Swarthmore and MBA from Villanova. He works to create a learning environment in which students discuss questions and share ideas with each other.
Kim Glynn is one of the current Kindergarten teachers at Westtown Lower School. When Kim is not teaching or playing with her 7 year old twins, she enjoys cooking, flower arranging, gardening and entertaining. Over the past 12 years Kim has worked with a florist and a wedding planner to help design floral arrangements.
Margaret Haviland has a PhD in US History from the University of Pennsylvania and has been teaching high school history at Westtown School since 1994.
Tom Haviland has worked at Westtown, both on and off the courts, since 2001 as a boys’ dormitory head, classroom teacher, Quaker Leadership Program adult mentor, and boys’ tennis coach. Beginning in the fall of 2011, Tom began a full-time career instructing and coaching tennis year round. Some of his clinics and work include fall and winter junior development clinics for children 7-15 years of age, Westtown School fall and spring boys’ varsity tennis coach, and part-time Tennis Pro leading and assisting with junior and adult programs at the Upper Main Line YMCA in Berwyn. Tom has over 30 years combined USTA tournament play and coaching experience, holds a USPTR certification, and is finishing up his USPTA certification. Additionally, Tom has attended multiple USTA led High School Coach’s and 10 & Under QuickStart workshops emphasizing the latest in age appropriate development, training and play. Tom’s clinics and tennis instruction teach proper stroke technique, footwork, and the strategy and tactics of the game while providing the right amount of challenge in a fun and supportive setting.
Julia Hudson graduated from Westtown in 2010 and is currently studying at Goucher College. She has been a dancer since she was four and has worked for Summer Sessions as a Teachers’ Helper since 2007.
Amanda Huskey is a 2nd grade teacher and Varsity Field Hockey coach at Westtown School. She has spent the past 12 summers working with 4‑12 year olds at day camps in the area, including Westtown Summer Sessions.
Bea Kaplan holds a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and has been teaching art to kids for over 20 years. She has taught in schools, museums, art centers and community arts programs, and currently teaches for Darlington Arts Center and The Delaware Nature Society.
Elyse Kelsey graduated fromWest Chester University in December 2007 with her Bachelors in Elementary Education and a minor in Reading. Elyse has substitute taught both for the Chester County Intermediate Unit and Westtown’s Lower School, and she is currently teaching first grade for the school district of Philadelphia.
Rose Koenig has been teaching Chemistry at Westtown School since 2002. She earned her B.S. in Chemistry from Rosemont College and her M.S. in Chemistry from Villanova University. She has taught the Chemistry 1 and Chemistry 2 (Advanced) courses at Westtown and looks forward to teaching Chemistry in the Summer Program.
Kwesi Koomson is the Chair of Westtown’s Upper School Math Department. He has a BA from Franklin & Marshall and an MA in mathematics from Villanova University. He has been teaching math since 1997 and the SAT math preparation course since 1999.
Alison Levie currently teaches at Lansdowne Friends School and has taught at Wilmington Friends School. With a master's degree in City Planning, she worked in community and downtown revitalization, followed by a few years in the publishing field, before becoming a teacher. She loves helping young students discover the pleasures of reading and writing.
Sue McLaughlin has been the science teacher at Westtown Lower School for 16 years. She has been teaching environmental education for over 30 years and is trained in GLOBE (Global Learning through Observation of the Environment), FOSS (Full Option Science Systems), STC (Science and Technology for Children), and does Teacher Training in Star Lab (a digital planetarium). In addition, she is a facilitator for Project Learning Tree, Project Water Education for Teachers, and Food, Land and People.
Sophie Miller is a recent graduate from Westtown and attends St. Lawrence University. She has recently finished her second year as a double arts major at Westtown and is looking to continue her artistic focus in college.
Michael Minnig is the Director of Outdoor Education and the Lead Ropes Facilitator at Westtown School. Michael holds a Challenge Course Site Manager's Certification through Project Adventure and is also certified as a Top-roping Instructor. Michael holds an M.Ed. for which he studied conflict resolution and the building of peaceable schools.
Victoria Pearson is the Earth Literacy teacher and Gardener at Westtown, where she brings the joys of the garden and lessons of environmental stewardship to students in all three divisions of the school. Our 2 acre educational farm is where you will find Victoria throughout the summer, welcoming campers and families who are members of our very own CSA.
Megan Rose earned her BA from Duke University and her MA in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has taught in Japan, Italy and New York City. She has been teaching for 15 years and currently teaches English in Westtown’s Middle School as well as SAT Prep in Upper School.
Ernest Schoch has a BA in Environmental Biology from Lock Haven University and has been a life-long member of the Westtown community. He lives with his wife and 2 daughters on the beautiful Westtown campus. He currently teaches 7th grade Life Science and 6th grade Math at the Middle School.
Julia Steiner has a Bachelors in Agricultural Science from the University of Delaware, and teaching certifications in elementary and special education. She currently teaches third grade at Goshen Friends School. Julia served as a long-term substitute teacher at Westtown in second grade and kindergarten. She enjoys incorporating her love of nature and food into the classroom, and is looking forward to another exciting summer.
Carrie Timmins teaches Health and PE and coaches Middle School Soccer and Varsity Girls’ Basketball at Westtown. She was an assistant women’s basketball coach at the University of Delaware where she was also a four-year letter winner on the team. She has a BS in Health and Physical Education and is pursuing her Master’s degree in School Counseling. She loves reading, running, biking and traveling.
Lisa Wolfe, owner of Lisa Wolfe Music, LLC in the Frazer Plaza, teaches music in private, group and workshop settings. She received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees at West Chester University. She's been a musician for over 30 years. Lisa has written and recorded original songs and children's stories and performed in schools, libraries, camps and Coffee Houses in the four state area. Westtown's Ropes Course Camp Counselors: This talented group of teen and young adult facilitators is comprised of people who have successfully completed at least one term of Westtown's Ropes Course Leadership Training Program. With at least 80 hours of intensive training & practice, these young leaders have the technical and interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively on and around our course. They stand out for their dedication to fun, healthy adventures and for the ethic of care which they bring to their work with our campers.
