May 2012
A group of Westtown alumni gathered for a photograph in front of the south entrance of the school (the original main building) to mark the occasion of their first reunion in August 1886. The Westtown Alumni Association was formed that year, and its membership included those who had received a diploma from the school. Ten years later, the Westtown Old Scholars Association was organized, open to all who had attended Westtown, regardless of whether they received a diploma. (Diplomas were first awarded in 1862, yet it was common for many years to attend Westtown and not follow the prescribed course for a diploma.) The two organizations carried on separately until 1919, when they joined efforts, taking the name of the older organization, the Westtown Alumni Association. Westtown School will host another return of alumni to campus the second weekend of May.
