How should you approach a research project?
If you take into account these six essential tasks, you will be able to fulfill your information need in a logical, thoughtful way.
- TASK DEFINITION:
Define the problem.
Identify the information needed. - INFORMATION-SEEKING STRATEGIES:
Determine all possible sources.
Select the best sources. - LOCATION & ACCESS:
Locate sources.
Find information within sources. - USE OF INFORMATION:
Engage: read, hear, view, etc.
Extract relevant information.
Take useful notes. - SYNTHESIS:
Organize information from various sources.
Present the result. - EVALUATION:
Judge the result (the product).
Judge the process.
