7th Grade—For Real?
~ Published author? Who, me? Yes, you. All 7th graders write and illustrate professionally bound picture books with their young (and admiring) reading partners in kindergarten.
~ Quis linguam latinam mortuam dicit? That’s the Latin class motto. Who says Latin’s a dead language?
~ Cartography in math? Yup, it happens. We use scale to enlarge maps of Middle Eastern countries, and then putting them all together, we make a mural of the entire region.
~ Life-size life science? Start planning now for your anatomically-correct insect costume.
~ Talent? We’ve got it and we’re proud of it. And we share it at the end-of-year Talent Show.
~ Subvertisements? Huh? Learn to recognize hidden propaganda messages and then design your own tongue-in-cheek advertisements.
“Dear Abby?” We write the questions, and in Decisions class we explore the moral consequences.
~ A Robotics Club? Our girls’ team came in first and the boys finished in second place in district competitions. Westtown ‘bots rock!
~ Research? Not only do we write a major research paper in history about an important person from the 20th century, we present the person in character and in costume.
~ Community? Building it from the ground up, we start the year with an overnight canoe trip, and we work on it all year at Westtown’s ropes course.
