The varsity Softball team is a group of student-athletes comprising elite travel softball players as well as elite soccer, field hockey, basketball, and other sports players. This blend of athleticism makes a very competitive team. Our athletes are students first, and many are involved with various extracurricular school activities/groups and serve as student leaders on campus.
Our core values
We strongly believe in these core values that define our Westtown Softball Program:

  • Integrity and trust
  • Commitment and dedication to being the best student-athlete, teammate, friend, person that you can be Service and sacrifice to be a great teammate
  • Work ethic and drive.
  • Positivity and joy.
Our coaching philosophy
As a coaching staff, we believe in developing each individual as a student and an athlete. There are many life lessons that are learned through participation in competitive athletics; our goal is to help each student-athlete reach their full potential in all aspects of their life. We believe in teaching our student-athletes to work hard and remain positive through adversity and failure on and off the softball field. We believe in having great attitudes, dedicated effort, and a positive team perspective. This is the mentality we expect our players to adopt and one that we, as coaches, will live by on and off the field.

How We Train
  • We hold practice five days a week during the spring season. We start with our dynamic exercises to warm up properly, then move into our agility training using ladders, tennis balls, and cones.
  • We then focus on the basics of fielding and throwing to develop fundamental skills needed in softball. We use various basic and creative drills to challenge our student-athletes. Our philosophy is for everyone to learn to play at various positions, excluding pitchers and catchers.
  • Then we move on to team-based live hitting, running, and fielding to simulate live game conditions and scenarios. We emphasize the importance of constant communication and teamwork to execute the offense and defense.
  • We often split up our training days to concentrate on one area, such as hitting, fielding, or throwing, in order to provide a more concentrated effort to develop and hone skills.
  • We hold fall and winter practices for our pitchers and catchers. We typically do a lot of intense training that focuses both on the physical and mental aspects of the highly skilled positions of catcher and pitcher.

Player-Focused Philosophy
Softball players are always thinking ahead, running possible scenarios, and preparing themselves to make the right decision under duress with every pitch in a game whether on offense, batting, or playing defense. This requires both physical and mental discipline.

We try to cultivate discipline by setting clear team and individual goals for the season. We try to develop a team plan to achieve them, as well as individual plans that anchor our team plan. These include nurturing leadership skills with our seniors and juniors to lead, communicate, motivate, nurture, and develop individuals and the overall team.
