Wrestling - Varsity (Coed)

Overview
Welcome to Westtown Wrestling!
Wrestling was founded at Westtown School in the early 1960's. One of the unique aspects of our very successful program is that the varsity and assistant varsity coaches have shared the helm since 1970. As a result, together we offer more than six decades of commitment to the sport of wrestling at Westtown School. As a result of this extraordinary consistency in leadership, young athletes who enter into the program immediately benefit from a well-established and proven philosophy about the sport of wrestling at Westtown School. They feel a sense of pride in the program's many accomplishments and general excellence over the years. During my varsity coaching tenure beginning in 1986, Westtown Wrestling has won close to 350 dual meets, nearly 40 league championships, and had four top-five team finishes, since 2009, in the Pennsylvania State Independent School Wrestling Tournament.

We invite individuals with strong character, courage, and commitment to join the program. My primary goal as head coach, however, is that my wrestlers are good students and citizens at school. I want my athletes to be surrounded by other young men who want to succeed in life “off of the mat." My wrestlers are very close to each other and they regularly find healthy ways to deal with adversity and pressure, as well as set positive goals and limits in their lives. I take great pride in the fact that the majority of my wrestlers are honor roll students, are leaders at school, and are solid mentors for their younger teammates and peers. We have experienced tremendous success on the mat over the years because we have sought to do the important things right off of the mat. After having meaningful experiences in wrestling at Westtown, our wrestlers graduate feeling confident that they are in a great position to make the choice about continuing to wrestle in college and taking on tough challenges in life. Living in a residential school, as coaches, we have the distinct advantage of being easily accessible to our wrestlers at Westtown School. Wrestlers see their coaches at Westtown as being valuable resources and like fathers in a very close family. Our athletes' health and safety are major priorities in our wrestling program, so my coaching philosophy includes an insistence that wrestlers compete at their natural weight. Finally, wrestlers have also significantly benefited from guidance from their coaches when seeking off-season wrestling activities and training and conditioning programs.
As you further explore Westtown School please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions about the wrestling program or if you would like more information. I can be reached at jay.farrow@westtown.edu or at 610-399-7965.
