Message from the Principal

Dear Families,

One week to go until winter break!

Our mitten tree is set up in the lobby ready to receive gifts of new mittens, gloves and hats for infants to teenagers. The donations will go to local children in West Chester who can use help staying warm this winter.

Songs and music-making will be a big part of the coming days.

To capture the building holiday spirit, we will start each morning next week with songs of the season in the Gathering Room. As children arrive between 7:45 and 8:00, they will head to the Gathering Room instead of the playground.

Parent Council has organized Lower School caroling for Wednesday night, starting at 6:00 in the Gathering Room with a quick pizza dinner.

Next Friday, December 15, at 10:00, we will celebrate the end of the first half of the school year with our winter concert. Each week in Gathering, the faculty have been amazed at how Teacher Lulu takes simple music and adds complexity with rounds and instruments. Throughout the fall, students engaged in many stages of music-making including assimilation, imitation, analysis and refinement. Their exploration and work will result in the last stage of music-making: performance! The concert should last 45 - 50 minutes.

In all our music-making, there is a mix of the English traditional songs and songs in different languages celebrating many faiths and traditions. Music is one of the ways we expand children's understanding of the world.

I look forward to seeing you next week. Weeks of physical therapy are paying off and I am dying to be back full time. Have a great weekend.

Happily hobbling onward,

Important Messages

From Teacher Lynn: We continue to collect books for the Book Swap in Lower School to help ease the winter doldrums and to recycle books among our LS families. As you are cleaning out bookshelves, please keep the swap in mind! There is a collection box in the LS lobby, and we are accepting books for Pre-K to 5th grade readers. Please drop off your gently used books for the swap. The books will also be used to stock the Little Free Library that third grade has been designing and will be building, later this year. We can use adult books for the Little Free Library if you have any to donate. Thank you!
