Message from the Principal

Dear Families,

I had the message all set in my head for Just the Facts this week.  Jack Ma's comments at the World Economic Forum.  Last night, I read T. Nancy van Arkel, Middle School Principal's message and thought, "Well, we are on the same page," which is not surprising, as Nancy and I work with an uncommon synchrony in thinking and decision making.  Her message was exactly what I wanted to write.  So, with her permission, I am copying her Just the Facts below.  As Friends say, Nancy speaks my mind.

At The World Economic Forum at Davos this week, Jack Ma spoke about what students will need to know for the future. His point is that our children will be competing for jobs with machines, and so we need to educate them in skills that are specifically human and not able to be done by machines. His list includes priorities Westtown has long incorporated in our approach to education:  values, independent thinking skills, collaboration and teamwork, care for others.  Check out the short video to hear him in his own words.

With thoughts of health and flu, please remember to wash hands many times throughout the day and follow the guidelines of your child staying home if they have a fever and/or are sick.  Let's see if we can keep this nasty flu at bay.

Have a great weekend, no matter where you might fall along the football spectrum,
