December 28, 2021
I hope that winter break has provided you with a bit of pause and an opportunity to slow down, recharge, and relax.
Yesterday, the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) released new guidance around isolation, quarantine, and vaccine effectiveness. You can find the full text of this update here. As always, the school's Pandemic Policies and Operations (PPO) Group has been in consultation with each other and our local health authorities to discern the way forward for our school, continuing to prioritize both community health and in-person learning. As of today, we anticipate updating our expectations for isolation, quarantine, testing, and other mitigation measures to best support these dual priorities as we return to campus in the new year. I plan to be in touch with you again on Thursday to share our updated Health and Safety Plan, as well as an overview of any changes.
On December 17, Director of Nursing Theresa Sardella sent a message asking our families to email her if any of our students tests positive or is exposed to a COVID positive individual during winter break. I would like to express our appreciation to those families who have been in touch already and encourage others to reach out throughout the remainder of the break with new information as it arises. We have recently learned of several COVID positive cases among our students from sources other than the COVID positive student or their family and are eager to connect with those families, you can reach Theresa directly here.
As you know from our earlier communication, we plan to test our entire community in the new year. According to the CDC, COVID positive individuals may test positive for up to 90 days following the onset of infection. For this reason, it is vital that we know who has tested positive over break so that we may exempt them from our pooled testing.
Lastly, please continue to email the nursing staff in your division (Lower and Middle School here or Upper School here) any vaccine or booster updates that may have occurred during break. We strongly encourage any students who are eligible for either to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
I look forward to being in touch on Thursday with additional details about our anticipated return to campus next week.
