Green Ribbon School
A lot of schools say they value sustainability, but Westtown means it. In 2013 Westtown was one of 64 schools nationwide and the only independent school in Pennsylvania to be named a Green Ribbon School by the US Department of Education for our exemplary efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, promote better health, and ensure effective environmental education, including civics and green career pathways.
Students see and learn from Westtown's sustainability efforts everyday -- from visible campus recycling, organic and local food in the dining room, the campus farm and gardens, solar panels on the athletic center and a hundred small examples in every facet of school life. Schools don't receive the Green Ribbon Award for following a fad; they earn it when their commitment to environmental stewardship is part of its bedrock.
