After School Program Staff

Westtown School is seeking part-time staff members for its “MooseKids” after school program, for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year. MooseKids is a student-centered after school program for students in Pre-K to 5th grade offering engaging age-appropriate activities, in a safe and supportive environment. The after school program runs weekdays from 3:30-6:00 pm, with some additional hours possible during in-service days and school breaks. 

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of developmentally appropriate activities for children ages 4-10 and be willing to roll up their sleeves and play. We are looking for candidates with personal interest in sports, music, art, and the natural world along with a sense of humor and a love of working with young children. Classroom management skills and flexibility are required. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety and security of students while facilitating play-based activities;
  • Provide homework help and student enrichment programming;
  • Organize and lead games and activities;
  • Create and implement open-ended creative art projects;
  • Respond to the individual needs of students while providing a supportive and caring atmosphere;
  • Help resolve the conflicts of play and sports in ways that align with Quaker practices;
  • Coordinate with the Lower School regarding attendance and enrollment tracking;
  • Establish a healthy and consistent relationship with parents through open and timely communication;
  • Document incidents concerning student behavior and communicate incidents to other team members;
  • Work as a productive member of a collaborative team. 

Qualifications

  • Some college required, Bachelor’s degree preferred

Bus Drivers

Bus Drivers

Westtown School is currently seeking experienced bus drivers to transport students for the 2022-23 school year. Part-time bus drivers will transport students to athletics events and school trips during the academic year. We are seeking responsible drivers with part-time availability most days, including some evenings and weekends.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Transport students to and from events;
  • Assist students/passengers with proper seating and safety equipment with the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading of the bus or van during normal transport and emergency situations;
  • Ensure prompt pick-up and delivery of students;
  • Ensure luggage and sports equipment properly is stowed, following proper lifting procedures;
  • Communicate promptly and effectively with students/passengers, parents, and the school;
  • Maintain professional and appropriate relations with all students, parents, and others at all times;
  • Maintain vehicle mileage logs and other required documentation;
  • Ensure that vehicle interiors are clean and free of debris;
  • Monitor students and other passengers during transit for the purpose of maintaining order and discipline and ensuring the safety of all passengers;
  • Perform first aid as necessary for the purpose of meeting the immediate health care needs of passengers if properly trained and certified.  Current CPR certification is desired;
  • Understand and comply with all safety and vehicle regulations and emergency procedures;
  • Ensure that vehicles have adequate fuel for all trips;
  • Report all accidents, traffic violations, and safety concerns to the Transportation Manager;
  • Participate in all department meetings and required training.

Qualifications

  • Bus Drivers must possess a current valid PA commercial driver’s license, with air brake restriction removed, and current Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
  • Must maintain an acceptable safe driving record
  • Must have a current school bus medical certificate, may be required to have DOT certification
  • Able to work flexible hours in the early morning and afternoon
  • Some late-night and longer trips (to New York City, Washington, DC) including overnight trips are possible
  •  Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Able to lift, carry or otherwise move up to 40 lbs. regularly.  Lift, carry or otherwise move up to 50 lbs occasionally with assistance
  • Able to read and interpret maps and utilize navigation systems.

Middle School Details

  • Practices  meet from 2:30-3:30pm on Monday through Friday

  • Practices  meet from 4:00-5:30pm on Monday through Friday

Westtown coaches create and promote a positive team culture, develop fundamental skills of the game, organize and enthusiastically run practices, and implement effective game strategies to realize a high level of individual and team success in their sport.  Successful coaching should lead to improved ability in the sport, as well as; good sportsmanship, self-discipline, self-confidence, a healthy attitude towards winning, and a sense of pride in the student-athlete’s accomplishments.  Westtown coaches promote the values of Westtown School and the Friends Schools League and consistently uphold expectations of proper student behavior.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Observe the rules of Westtown School, the FSL, and PAISAA  
  • Remain current with theories and techniques in their sport
  • Attend all coaches’ meetings
  • Evaluate players and select team
  • Plan and implement daily practices 
  • Be responsible for team equipment and uniforms
  • Be responsible for team discipline
  • Initiate appropriate and regular communication with student-athletes and parents
  • Follow school procedures regarding transportation, injuries, participation, meals 
  • Report and follow up with athletic trainer about injuries
  • Write and submit individual comments on each student as scheduled
  • Collaborate with assistant coach(es) and student manager
  • Keep the scorebook current and available 
  • Report areas of concern immediately to Athletic Directors –  fields, transportation, facilities, opposing teams, student behavior, parent issues, etc. 

Qualifications

  • Prior coaching experience required
  • Experience working with middle and high school-aged students
  • A positive student-centered approach to coaching
  • Ability to manage athletes at the appropriate level of the assigned sport
  • Demonstrated technical, theoretical, and applied knowledge pertinent to the assigned sport
  • CPR and first aid certified

Part-time Upper School Administrative Assistant

Westtown School is seeking an experienced, professional Administrative Assistant with exceptional interpersonal communication skills, outstanding facility with technology, and the ability to connect meaningfully with students and families throughout our intentionally diverse community. Reporting to the Upper School Principal, the Administrative Assistant provides support to the Dean of Students, Dean of Academics, and four grade-level Deans. Additionally, the Upper School Administrative Assistant is the primary attendance manager, coordinating communication with families and maintaining daily attendance records for all Upper School students. The successful applicant will have three or more years of experience in an administrative assistant or similar role with a positive, can-do approach to their professional responsibilities, the desire to acquire new skills, and the ability to solve problems in a collaborative, collegial manner. Experience working in an independent school is highly desired. This is a 10-month (mid-August through mid-June), part-time position, Monday-Friday 7:45 am -2:15pm, with some additional hours required during the beginning and end of the school year and for special events.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  •  Enter, update, and maintain daily student attendance records for all Upper School students utilizing Senior Systems and REACH, communicating with parents via phone and email regarding all student absences;
  • Greet and assist all visitors, serving as the primary point of contact for general phone calls and requests;
  • Provide clerical support to the Upper School Principal and other Upper School administrators;
  • Work collaboratively with the Senior Administrative Assistant to create a warm and welcoming Upper School office environment;
  •  Coordinate, plan, schedule, and communicate Upper School events, meetings, and daily schedules both internally and externally through email and the school’s various online calendars and databases;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Upper School Principal.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3 or more years’ of relevant experience as an administrative assistant or similar position with a customer service focus
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with school administrators, colleagues, students, parents, alumnae, volunteers, and other school constituents
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency with all Microsoft Office products and Google drive
  •  An open and honest communication style with a courteous and calm approach to all interpersonal interactions
  • A hands-on, innovative, and all-in approach to problem-solving with a high degree of confidentiality is a must

Per Diem School Nurses

Westtown School is currently seeking per diem Registered Nurses and LPNs to join our dynamic team of nursing professionals. We are seeking experienced nurses to work a variety of per diem shifts, evenings, nights, and weekends in our school Wellness Center.  Our evening, night, and weekend nurses are responsible for providing care to our upper school boarding students which includes, medication administration, assessment, and treatment of minor illnesses, also providing care to our students with chronic illnesses based on their Action Plan. 

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides quality care to students seeking assistance with health and wellness concerns
  • Provides first aid care and medically prescribed services
  • Maintains security of student medical information as well as school health supplies
  • Documents all activities and procedures accurately and in a timely manner
  • Collaborates with other members of the nursing staff, the Dean of Students, Dorm Parents, Advisers, and Parents on identified health needs, as well as other community members as needed in the student’s best interest.


Qualifications

  • Current CPR certification
  • A minimum of three years of clinical nursing experience,  prior experience in a school setting is highly desirable
  • Strong assessment skills and sound clinical judgment
  • Proficient with EMR documentation
  • Ability to work independently and take direction.

Security Officer

Westtown School is currently seeking an experienced full-time Security Officer to work 10:00 pm- 6:00 am Sunday through Thursday. School Security Officers are responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the school community, all buildings, and the surrounding campus. Security Officers provide on-campus security through regular rounds and camera surveillance.  Security Officers are essential school personnel and are expected to be available during inclement weather and other school-closing situations. Full-time employees are eligible for health, dental, and life insurance benefits, paid time off, 403b retirement contributions, paid holidays, and tuition remission.

  • High School diploma or equivalent required, some college preferred
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • EMT certification is helpful, but not required

Van Drivers

Van Drivers

Westtown School is currently seeking experienced van drivers to transport students to and from school on scheduled routes, for the 2022-23 school year. We are seeking experienced drivers to work part-time mornings and/or afternoons during the academic year. Some additional driving mid-day, evenings, and weekends may also be available.
