Fall Enrichment 

Mondays 

Ultimate Moose Frisbee: Monday, September 24 - November 12 (2nd - 5th grade)

 *NO CLASS  SEPTEMBER 30 or OCTOBER 9*
In Ultimate Frisbee, we will teach  the basics of the sport of Ultimate through guided skill instruction and gameplay in a relaxed, inclusive environment. Students will also work on learning important sportsmanship values such as teamwork, communication, and mutual respect; values upheld by both the Ultimate community and Westtown School. Ultimate will be taught by Teacher Ken, a former professional Ultimate player and collegiate coach at West Chester University. Ken is a certified teacher and USA Ultimate (USAU, the sport’s governing body) certified coach who plans on integrating his ultimate experience with accepted USAU best practices. Moosekids received a grant from USAU, which includes discs specifically designed for young children. Learn more about Ultimate here.  Class will end at 4:45 p.m.

Tuesdays

Level 7 (Tennis): September 25 - November 13 (Primary Circle - 5th grade)

An introduction to tennis that  will teach balance, hand-eye coordination exercises, and basic swing exercises. Our goal is to help each child realize their personal excellence on the court through simple and easy-to -understand instructions. Our teaching method focuses on targeting one key area at a time while keeping a long-term vision of higher excellence for the student. Class ends at 4:45 p.m.

Namaste Lynne Yoga: September 24 - November 12 3:45 p.m -4:45 p.m. (Primary Circle -1st grade) 

*NO CLASS OCTOBER 8th*
This class will meet g one hour a week for seven  weeks with Lynne, experienced yoga instructor and studio owner at Namaste Lynné Yoga. Your child  will explore yoga poses, mindful movement, and a series of activities and games to reinforce the concepts and movements taught. In addition to the yoga based movements, students will learn self-regulation skills and breathing techniques to help them relax and de-stress. Class ends at 4:45 p.m.

Wednesdays

Lego Robotics: September 29 - December 12 (4th and 5th grade)
This year the FIRST LEGO League Challenge is called City Shaper, which focuses on creating a better world. Where would you begin? It challenges students to think about what makes a sustainable city. This is work that our fourth and fifth-grade students have had some experience thinking about if they attended third grade at Westtown. As in past years, we’ll begin the club with the build-out of the mission board challenges and EV3 robots. We’ll follow this with team-building activities and an introduction to the EV3 coding, which many of your children have already experienced in third grade and/or last year’s FLL Into Orbit challenge. Please choose either Wednesday OR Thursday.

Moon Metalsmithing: Wednesday, September 25- November 14 (3rd - 5th grade) 3:45 p.m - 4:45 p.m

In Introduction to Metalsmithing, students will learn the basics of stamping and chiseling techniques to create patterns onto copper. Students will have the opportunity to learn Turkish designs along with creating new patterns, while learning about positive and negative space. Projects will include keychains, medallions, coasters, and plates. This class will run from 3:45 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. If you would like to register your child  for the entire afternoon of metals with T. Martin, please make sure to register for the 3:45 p.m class and the 5:00 p.m  class. 

Moon Metalsmithing: Wednesday, September 25 - November 14 (3rd - 5th grade) 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

In Introduction to Metalsmithing, students will learn the basics of stamping and chiseling techniques to create patterns onto copper. Students will have the opportunity to learn Turkish designs along with creating new patterns, while learning about positive and negative space. Projects will include keychains, medallions, coasters, and plates.  This class will run from 5pm - 6pm. If you would like to sign up for the entire afternoon of Metals with T. Martin, please make sure to register for the 3:45pm class and the 5pm class. In order for this class to run, there must be a minimum of 5 participants. 

Thursdays

Penn Fusion: Thursday, September 26 - November 15 (Primary Circle - 1st grade)

Established in 2009, Penn Fusion Soccer Academy has quickly become one of the nation’s elite soccer organizations. Penn Fusion will provide Westtown with a top-notch coach from their professional organization, and improve skills for every level of player. Class ends at 4:45 p.m.
