What is the Westtown Fund?

Independent schools depend on philanthropic gifts to expand and enhance the programs they offer. The Westtown Fund provides unrestricted income which helps pay for the day-to-day operating expenses of the school. From buying new plates for the dining room to purchasing new computer programs to enhance the learning experience of our students, the Westtown Fund makes Westtown possible.

When will I be contacted about the Westtown Fund?

The Westtown Fund kicks off shortly after the beginning of the school year with a letter detailing the campaign and pledge card. Your pledge card will allow you and your family to discuss a gift that will be meaningful for your family. The money raised from the Westtown Fund is used during the current fiscal year (July 1-June 30) so the sooner you return your gift, the sooner your gift will have an impact on Westtown students.

How many appeals will I receive for the Westtown Fund?

Westtown mails three or four solicitations during the annual campaign year through the United States Postal Service.  Once you have made your contribution, you will be removed from future mailing lists for that appeal year.  Westtown School will send out reminders and updates to all constituents throughout the year via e-mail and social media to garner and enhance enthusiasm for the campaign.

Why does the school ask for a contribution in addition to my tuition payment?

An independent school education is an investment and an opportunity to be fully involved in your student’s campus experience. Although tuition is not tax-deductible, contributions to the Westtown Fund may be deducted from your taxes to the fullest extent of the law. Additionally, supporting the Westtown Fund allows every member of our community to make an investment in the school that means so much to us.

How much money am I expected to give?

The size of gifts to the Westtown Fund vary, but all gifts are important! We hope that each family will give according to their means and we hope that every family will find a way to participate. Many members of the Westtown community have stepped forward with leadership gifts of at least $1,000. Every contribution, no matter the size, allows our students to become stewards and leaders of a better world.

Why is participating important?

High levels of participation shows the greater community that our constituents are willing to invest in the lives of today’s Westonians. It signals that our community has confidence in the mission of the school and in our strategic plan. It also demonstrates to foundations that our community is strong, united, and worthy of outside support.

Does Westtown accept matching gifts from companies?

Are there other opportunities to contribute outside of the Westtown Fund?

Westtown features a wide menu of fundraising opportunities for families. Click on the links for additional information on any one of these fantastic programs.

Corporate Giving: Businesses establish philanthropic partnerships with Westtown through the EITC program and by sponsoring events at Westtown such as the Golf Outing and the Auction.

Designated Giving: Single- or multi-year gifts are designated to support specific goals, programs, and projects identified by the Board of Trustees in the School’s Strategic Plan.  Click here for more information about our Giant Strides campaign.

Faculty Wish List: This is a means through which our families can fund items that a faculty member wants but which fall outside their current budget.

Planned Giving: Estate gifts are the foundation of Westtown’s endowment and capital projects and provide long-term financial stability for the school.

Reunion Giving: While all classes are encouraged to give generously to the Westtown Fund, particularly during each fifth year reunion, alumni celebrating their 50th or 25th Reunion can also make donations to a restricted purpose.

Volunteer: The school depends on the many volunteers who make gifts of their time to support the school. There are a variety of great ways to parents, grandparents, and alumni to give back to Westtown through volunteer work.
