Art of Film

Dates: July 12-July 30
Course Description: Learners will engage with works of animation and film in order to gain fluency in the cultural impact and influence of the medium. This immersive course will foster media literacy through critical discourse with classic and contemporary film, while providing an opportunity for self-exploration and expression through open-format creative prompts. Students will respond to specific directors and stylistic genres, or investigate themes of their choosing in response to virtual screenings and group discussion. Drawing from the directorial and cinematographic techniques observed and discussed over the course of the syllabus, the final project will entail shooting and editing a short film informed by personal narratives.

New Play Workshop

Dates: June 21-July 9
Course Description: This is an acting and dramaturgy workshop for developing a new play that will premiere at Westtown next academic year. In this workshop, students will test out—and respond to—drafts of a new play, helping the play find its voice and its characters. This a chance for students to have an impact on the direction of a new play. This is a performance-based course. There will be no memorization necessary. Students who’ve taken Elements of Theater, Acting Workshop, or Advanced Theater Topics are highly encouraged to participate. This workshop will provide a valuable opportunity to learn about the new play process by participating in it.
