Applying to Middle School

Begin by completing our Inquiry Form. This lets us learn more about your family’s interests and ensures that you receive updates about upcoming events and the application process.

The first-round application deadline is December 1. Please reach out to admissions@westtown.edu or submit an inquiry form if you are interested in applying past the deadline.

To apply, follow the steps below.

Step 3: Visit Campus

After your discovery call, you’ll receive an email to schedule a campus tour at a time that works best for your family. We encourage Middle School students to join the tour—it’s a wonderful way for us to begin getting to know them.

Need help with scheduling? Contact the Admission Office at admission@westtown.edu or 610-399-7900.

Step 4: Begin Your Application/Submit Student Profile

When you’re ready, start your Standard Application Online (SAO).

To complete this step:

  • Create or log into your SSAT/SAO account.
  • Complete the Student Profile and select Westtown School.
  • Pay the application fee.

Once the Student Profile and fee are submitted, your application will be transmitted to Westtown, and we’ll follow along as your materials are received.

Step 5: Complete Your Application

All required pieces of the SAO application must be submitted for your application to be considered complete.

  • Student Profile
  • Parent Statement
  • Student Essays
  • Teacher Recommendations – Sent through the SAO to your child’s current math and English language arts teachers (two separate forms, even if the same teacher covers both subjects).
    • You may also request an optional recommendation from a previous teacher or a teacher in another subject area (art, science, etc.) using the “Any Teacher” form in SAO.
    • If your school is unable to provide recommendations, please contact us—we’ll work with you to find an alternative option.
    • Tip: Email your teachers directly to let them know to expect the SAO request, as it can sometimes be filtered to spam.
  • Student Transcripts – Request through SAO from your current school’s records office. Please include the final report cards/progress reports from the two previous years, as well as any current-year reports.
  • Principal/Guidance Counselor Form – This is sent through SAO to your child’s current principal or head of school.
  • Graded Writing Sample–We require a graded essay from your child’s current school year be uploaded to your SAO application. It should reflect teacher notes/feedback and (if your school issues grades) the grade received for the assignment.
  • Westtown Supplemental Form – Once we receive your Student Profile, we’ll send a short, school-specific form for you to complete.

Step 6: Student Visit

All Middle School applicants participate in a visit as part of the admission process.

  • Applicant Visit Day (for December 1 applicants):
Students applying by December 1 will join a required group visit day in December.
  • Preview Mornings:
Optional preview mornings are available for families who wish to experience the classroom environment earlier in the process.
  • Individual Visits (for later applicants):
Students applying after December 1 will spend a class day at Westtown (7:55 a.m.–12:45 p.m.) on a mutually convenient weekday.

Details about these visit opportunities will be shared by our Director of Pre-K–8th Grade Admission.

Step 7: Testing

Westtown takes a holistic approach to admission. While we require a standardized test, we accept several different options:

  • Accepted Tests: SSAT, ISEE, WISC, ERBs, TerraNova, PSSA, or AIMs Web.
  • Testing at Westtown: Westtown is an official test site for the SSAT. You can find dates and register on the SSAT website.
    • SSAT Code: 8164
    • ISEE Code: 395230

If your child receives accommodations, please share the relevant documentation or testing results to help us understand their learning needs.

Important Information for the 2025-2026 Application Cycle

Westtown School is a member of the Philadelphia Region Independent School Enrollment Consortium (PRISEC).

As part of our shared commitment to a fair and transparent admissions process for families exploring independent schools across the Greater Philadelphia region, schools have agreed upon the following common admission process dates:

  • Earliest Application Deadline: December 1
  • Earliest Notification Date: January 10
  • Earliest Commitment Deadline: February 15

Have you been asked to reply to an offer of enrollment or scholarship that does not align with these “no earlier than” process dates? Does a personal family circumstance require an exception to the above?

Here are the next steps:

  1. Call the school that is asking you to reply earlier than the agreed-upon dates above and ask for an extension on your reply to their offer.
  2. If no extension is granted, call the other school(s) to which you have applied and ask for an exception and expedited review and/or decision.
