Boys Varsity Assistant Basketball Coach
Boys Varsity Assistant Basketball Coach
Westtown School is seeking an experienced Assistant Basketball Coach to start June 1, 2022.
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Assistant Basketball Coach will assist the Head Basketball Coach in creating and promoting a positive team culture. The assistant coach will assist the head coach in the instruction of student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary to realize a high level of individual and team success. Instruction should lead to improved ability in the sport as well as good sportsmanship, self discipline, self confidence, a healthy attitude towards winning, and a sense of pride in the student-athlete’s accomplishments. Westtown coaches promote the values of Westtown School, the Friends Schools League, and uphold expectations of proper student behavior.
The ideal candidate will be available to assist with practice, games, tournaments, and showcases year round. The team plays in two showcase events in June, has a training season in the fall (Sept 6-Oct 28) and a competitive season in the winter (Oct 31-March 4).
There is a possibility of on-campus housing for qualified candidates who work as a Dorm Parent in the Upper School residential program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Observe the rules of Westtown School, the FSL, and PAISAA

Bus and Van Drivers
Bus and Van Drivers
Westtown School is currently seeking experienced bus and van drivers to transport students to and from school on scheduled routes, for the 2021-22 school year. We are seeking experienced drivers to work part-time mornings and afternoons, with some mid-day, evening, and weekend routes available.

Essential Responsibilities

Transport students to and from the school per the designated route;

Assist students/passengers with proper seating and safety equipment with the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading of the bus or van during normal transport and emergency situations;

Ensure prompt pick-up and delivery of students;

Ensure luggage and sports equipment properly stowed, following proper lifting procedures;

Communicate properly and effectively with students/passengers, parents, and the school;

Maintain professional and appropriate relations with all students and parents at all times;

Ensure that vehicle interiors are clean and free of debris;

Monitor students and other passengers during transit for the purpose of maintaining order and discipline and ensuring the safety of all passengers;

Perform first aid as necessary for the purpose of meeting the immediate health care needs of passengers if properly trained and certified. Current CPR certification is desired;

Understand and comply with all safety and vehicle regulations and emergency procedures;

Ensure that vehicles have adequate fuel for all trips;

Report all accidents, traffic violations, and safety concerns to the Transportation Manager;

Bus Drivers must possess a current valid PA commercial driver's license, with air brake restriction removed, and current Passenger and School Bus endorsements.

Dean of Students
Dean of Students
Westtown School is currently seeking an experienced Dean of Students to start July 1, 2022.
Reporting to the Upper School Principal, the Dean of Students provides strategic guidance and daily oversight of all aspects of the Upper School student life. The Dean of Students is both afforded a high degree of autonomy and partners closely with the Upper School Principal and the Dean of Academics to further division-wide initiatives. Within a collaborative culture based on Quaker decision-making, the Dean of Students leads the smooth functioning of the blended residential and day student programs, the setting and maintaining of community tone and expectations, and the thoughtful and consistent application of the school’s major and minor disciplinary processes. The Dean of Students and the Dean of Academics partner in the oversight and support of the Class Deans and collaborate closely with the Principal in the overall leadership of the Upper School.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the direct supervisor of the Director of Residential Life, Co-Directors of International Student Programming,
- Work Program Coordinator, Service Network Coordinator, and the Day Student Coordinator.
- Work closely with the Director of Residential Life to train Dorm Heads, Dorm Parents, Proctors and Prefects.
- Work closely with the Health Center, including the Dean of Integrated Wellness and Learning, to develop programming and procedures focused on student wellness; knowledge of pandemic planning would be helpful.
- Work closely with the Upper School Equity, Justice, and Belonging (US EJB) Director to develop training for student leaders and dormitory faculty. Assist the US EJB Director with investigating bias incident reports.
- Work with the Dean of Faculty and Innovation and the Director of Residential Life to plan professional development for residential faculty.
- Work with the 8th Grade Dean and Day Student Coordinator to create a robust divisional transition for students and families from Middle to Upper School.
- Work closely with the clerk of the Discipline Council to support and educate students going through the process, including coordinating and leading communication with students, parents, administrators, and the community at large. This includes managing the other disciplinary procedures, including Small Discipline Group and administrative hearings.
- Deepen and enhance knowledge of best practices in independent secondary schools.
- Responsible for the annual review and revision of the Upper School Student Handbook.
- Maintain records of student attendance, citizenship, and conduct.
- Manage and maintain the REACH Boarding system; working knowledge of CANVAS and Blackbaud are also helpful.
- Maintain and supervise the Dean of Students’ budget, and other programs reporting to the Dean of Students.
- Partner with the Upper School Principal, Director of Athletics, Dean of Faculty, Dean of Academics, and Director of Residential Life to coordinate job responsibilities.
- The Dean of Students is a member of the Student Support Team and Co-Clerk of the Student Life and Leadership Team.
- The Dean of Students, with the Upper School Principal, works closely with the Director of Athletics to support student-athletes.
- The school's residential identity and the nature of the Dean of Students' work requires that this position will include evening and weekend duties and availability for emergencies, as needed.
- The Dean of Students will be responsible for leading a review of our disciplinary process, including helping to fully implement our restorative justices.
- The Dean of Students will review and implement the new policies and procedures for investigating sexual misconduct as recommended by the Sexual Misconduct Committee in May 2022.
- The Dean of Students will play a vital role in developing and implementing all gender dormitory housing options, a critical initiative for our community.
- The Dean of Students is expected to live on campus.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree preferred;
- Five or more years of teaching or school administration experience, preferably in an independent, boarding school environment;
- Demonstrated success as both a leader and as an integral member of an administrative team in an educational setting;

Security Officer
Westtown School is seeking a part-time Security Officer for the following overnight shifts; Friday and Saturday 10:00 pm to 6:00 am, additional shifts may be available. The part-time Security Officer is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the school community, buildings, and 600-acre campus. Security Officers are considered essential personnel and, as such, are expected to be available during inclement weather and other school-closing situations.

Summer Groundskeeper
General Groundskeeper
Westtown School is seeking a Groundskeeper for temporary summer work, beginning immediately through mid to late August. The Groundskeeper will be responsible for the general maintenance of the campus grounds and recreational play areas while also assisting in the overall maintenance of the school’s property. The regular hours are 7:00 am -3:30 pm Monday-Friday.

- Assist in maintaining athletic fields and recreational play areas, including layout, lining, mowing, seeding, fertilizing, etc.;

Summer Kitchen Staff
Summer Kitchen Staff
We are currently seeking several interested and enthusiastic candidates for the position of summer kitchen staff. Summer kitchen staff members will assist our school kitchen team in providing a wide range of kitchen and dining room services in support of our on-campus summer camp programs. Our summer kitchen staff will assist with set-up, cleaning and food service in the dining room and assist with general cleaning, dish washing and light food preparation in the kitchen. The part-time schedule from mid-June to early August will be approximately 20 hours per week, including nights and weekends.
Essential Functions:

Westtown School Summer Camp Counselor
Westtown School Summer Camp Counselor
Westtown School Summer Camp is seeking several interested and enthusiastic applicants for the position of Summer Camp Counselor to work June 13 through August 5. Camp Counselors assist the Lead Counselors with all camp activities while maintaining a supportive environment that reflects Westtown School’s mission and values. Camp Counselors are responsible for supervising an age-specific group of campers while creating a fun and safe camp experience. The regular hours will be 8:30 AM to 4:15 PM.
Westtown School Summer Camp is a traditional day camp program serving children ages 4 to 14, located on Westtown School’s 600+ acre campus near West Chester, PA. At Westtown School Summer Camp, discovery and education await every child in a creative, supportive and inclusive environment rooted in the school’s outdoor education traditions. Camp staff members lead campers in a wide variety of action-based educational projects each day. Our camp programs reflect the highest standards of respect, inclusion, and cooperation between counselors and campers.
Position Description:
- Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers, within activities and throughout the camp experience
- Apply age-appropriate child development principles in working with campers, utilizing clear communication skills, interpersonal relationship building, and respect for diversity
- Enthusiastically participate in the planning and implementation of creative and fun program activities, including assisting with specialized program areas such as waterfront, nature, and arts and crafts, as directed
- Maintain the highest standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff
- Be a positive role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior, setting a good example to campers and other staff members in regard to general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and good sportsmanship
- Follow and uphold all safety and security protocols, reporting all safety concerns promptly to the Camp Director
Qualifications:

Position Description
The Archives Assistant supports the work of the Archivist in preserving and making accessible Westtown School’s archival collections. This individual will provide assistance in all areas of collection management and care, including description, digitization, and outreach. They will assist in the creation and updating of collection inventory guides for discrete collections, such as photographs and artwork. They will also arrange and describe archival collections according to best practices and standards. The Archives Assistant will support the Archivist in outreach to Westtown students, faculty, and staff, as well as the general public.

- Surveys, arranges, and describes institutional records and manuscript collections
- Creates DACS-compliant EAD finding aids using Archivists Toolkit
- Provides online access to collection guides and finding aids through LibGuides

Westtown School has a deep, abiding and long standing commitment to equity, justice, and belonging (EJB). In January 2020, Westtown’s Board of Trustees approved a new strategic vision, Lighting the Way. Community, Illuminated is an essential component of this plan dedicated to our equity, justice, and belonging work. The school has allocated financial and personnel resources to this commitment including a full-time Lower and Middle School Equity, Justice, and Belonging Coordinator and a full-time Upper School Equity, Justice, and Belonging Coordinator. The initial search for a Dean, started in June 2021, was halted so that the school could identify a clear vision for the role and establish a foundation for support for both this position and our institutional goals. The new Dean of Equity, Justice, and Belonging will be essential in moving the program and the school forward in these initiatives. This position serves on the Administrative Council and will report directly to the Head of School with a start date of July, 2022.

- Support the Equity Team in their work with student/faculty/staff affinity groups
Recruitment and Retention
- Assist in the recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and retaining of all faculty and staff with attention to historically marginalized identities, who reflect and support a diverse and inclusive school community
- Lead efforts to retain faculty and staff from historically marginalized identities through onboarding, mentoring, and support in collaboration with the Dean of Faculty and Innovation
- Work closely with the Director of Human Resources to revise policies, procedures and practices for hiring and provide anti-bias training for internal hiring committees
Evaluation and Assessment
- Work with data to develop action plans that lead our work in anti-racist and anti-bias approaches to education
- Create and interpret reports, including but not limited to equity reports, surveys, and focus groups to better understand the experiences of community members at Westtown
- Establish evaluative tools to assess curricular work from an institutional perspective and develop action that aligns with data and findings
Senior Leadership and Collaboration
- Report directly to the Head of School and serve on the Administrative Council

Upper School Equity, Justice and Belonging Director
Westtown School is seeking an Upper School Equity, Justice and Belonging Director (EJBD) to work in collaboration with the Dean of Equity, Justice and Belonging and the Upper School Principal to advance meaningful and intentional diversity, equity, and inclusion work in the division. The Upper School Equity, Justice and Belonging Director serves as an active member of the school-wide Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Board. This is a full-time, academic year position beginning in August 2022.
The US Equity, Justice and Belonging Director serves as a point person for faculty in the division to discuss and problem-solve DEI issues. In collaboration with the Dean and US Principal, the Equity, Justice and Belonging Director will pursue strategic goals to address the needs of the division, take a leadership role with respect to faculty professional development, and support curricular development and other long-range, strategic activities and initiatives related to DEI. Embedded in the division as a full-time faculty member, the Equity, Justice and Belonging Director will model and promote inclusive, non-judgmental leadership and a positive, growth-oriented climate around topics of diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and cultural competency.
In collaboration with the Upper School Principal, the Equity, Justice and Belonging Director may advise on student conduct and conflict resolution, faculty hiring, and parent/guardian concerns. The Equity, Justice and Belonging Director may partner with the Human Resources Director and the Upper School Principal with regard to employee conduct and conflict resolution in the division.
The Equity, Justice and Belonging Director is expected to pursue robust professional development in DEI work every year, including positive personal identity development, cultural competency, and awareness of implicit bias and privilege, with particular attention to bringing learning back to students and adults throughout the division community. The Equity, Justice and Belonging Director is encouraged to submit proposals and papers to DEI-related professional associations, conferences, and organizations.

Act as an adviser to a small group of Upper School students and contribute to the residential program as a Dorm Affiliate.

Upper School Learning Specialist
Westtown School seeks a full-time Upper School Learning Specialist with prior experience supporting high achieving students with diverse learning profiles. As a member of the Upper School faculty, the Learning Specialist participates in a broad range of activities including some evening and weekend duties in support of the residential program.

Qualifications

Upper School Mathematics Teacher
Upper School Mathematics Teacher
Westtown School is seeking a full-time Mathematics Teacher for the 2022-23 school year. The Upper School Mathematics position will involve teaching four classes each semester and participating fully in the residential and co-curricular life of the school. Full-time Upper School faculty work in a variety of capacities in the academic, residential, and co-curricular programs. Appointments consist of teaching classes, advising a small group of students, serving on two school committees, participating in the co-curricular program by coaching interscholastic sports, facilitating lifelong fitness programs such as yoga, or collaborative activities such as theater or service network. Faculty contribute to our residential program as either Dorm Parents or Dorm Affiliates. Both roles require a combination of weekly weeknight evening duties and regular weekend duties throughout the year. On campus housing may be available for faculty who participate in the Upper School residential program, but is not guaranteed. Preference will be given to qualified applicants with additional experience in boarding schools.

Qualifications

Advanced degree in Mathematics or related subject;
