Our Mission: Purpose Illuminated

Purpose, Illuminated

Learning brought to Light.

Driven by a strong sense of purpose, our students make an impact. At Westtown School, we foster a culture of reflection and self-discovery in which students can ignite the unique spark that illuminates their passion and purpose. Inherent in our academically challenging, values-based education is the space and guidance for students to explore what compels and inspires them. We equip our graduates to lead lives of meaning and purpose.

Our Mission

Guided by the essential Quaker calling to seek out and honor that of God in each of us, Westtown School challenges its students to realize their individual gifts while learning and living together in a diverse community. Westtown inspires and prepares its graduates to be stewards and leaders of a better world.

Finding Purpose

The search for meaning and purpose is elemental to the human experience. How does Westtown help students illuminate their purpose?

By offering an education in which they are central, they are known and heard, and where they learn to discern, reflect, and act. By immersing them in an environment in which they are challenged to ask big questions like:

Who am I? Who do I want to be? What are my talents and passions? How do I want to live in the world? How can I better the world around me?

We believe it’s never too early to start this process of questioning and discovery, so Westtown students explore the answers to these questions from pre-K to twelfth grade through academic programs that are themselves grounded in inquiry, exploration, and Quaker values. We foster a culture of reflection and self-discovery in which students can ignite the unique spark that illuminates their passion and purpose.

Westtown is the difference between your child being changed by the world and being a force for change in the world.

Character matters.

Quakers believe that there is that of God in every person – the Inner Light – and that divine truth is revealed to those who seek it. These ideals are central to the vision of the school and are evident in how we relate to and nurture our students. Because we are guided by Quaker principles, we are committed to education that focuses on

  • Personal integrity
  • Spiritual growth and religious awareness
  • Simplicity
  • Equality
  • Community
  • Social responsibility, justice, and peace-making

Helping students to become people of solid character, to nourish their hearts as well as their minds, is as important to us as their achievement of academic excellence. In fact, we believe the two go hand in hand.
